Originally inhabited by the Caiquetio Indians, Bonaire Washington Park is the first nature sanctuary of the former Netherland Antilles. Established in 1969 and located in the Northwest part of the island, it covers an area roughly one fifth of Bonaire, and it had Slagbaai, the largest most productive plantations during the colonial period.
Today Bonaire Washington Slagbaai National Park is home to 2 internationally recognized and protected wetlands known as Ramsar sites. and a safe habitat for Bonaire’s native birds, and reptiles. Its pristine beaches are an important nesting ground for the sea turtles that visit the waters of our unspoiled island, Bonaire.
With a flexible itinerary, you will have plenty of opportunities to admire and photograph the flora & fauna in their natural habitats. If you choose to do the long tour, we will stop at Slaagbaai for a refreshing snorkel, or swim and you will enjoy a light picnic lunch on the beach.
